Cells and especially neurons can often be thought of by those outside the scientific community as rigid and unmoving. Axon guidance is a fascinating process by which growing neurons sense and grow their axons toward signals that allow them to reach a specific destination. This 3D animation hilights and explores possible journeys an axon may take, as it is led by the movements of a structure called the growth cone. The animation aims to instil a basic understanding and appreciation of neuronal movement by immersing the viewer in the environment, movements of the growth cone, and diversity and complexity of elements a neuron may encounter.
